Who wants to be a Google Games Champion?

June 14, 2018 by Magdalene L. Crowley

Come on down, Berkeley students!

Do you want to be a contestant at this years Google Games? Is your team ready to challenge yourselves, win prizes and have fun? Well, we invite you to register for The Google Games Bay Area taking place on Saturday, April 14th. Survey says that contestants will compete against other students from UC Berkeley and Stanford in challenges inspired by iconic game-shows, including Family Feud, Jeopardy and more. All mini games and challenges will test your brains and creativity to the limit, as you play for the title of The Google Games Champions. It’s a day of fun (and games!) as teams of five go head to head in many different challenges, including: fun puzzle competitions, interactive word association, and some light coding portions.

Here’s what you’ll need to do by Friday, March 30th:

  • Assemble a team of five freshman, sophomore, and or/junior students from your school (having a CS background is strongly recommended).

  • Pick a team name and register here (each team member must register individually).

  • Check out our website for more information and pictures from previous years!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. Can we have fewer than five members on our team?

We strongly recommend having the maximum number of members – any less and you’ll lose your competitive edge.

Q. Do you have to be a current student to participate?

You must be a first, second or third-year undergraduate student currently enrolled at UC Berkeley. Seniors and graduate students are not eligible to participate.

Q. Can we replace a member before the start of the event?

Absolutely! Just let us know via googlegames@google.com. Be sure to include: the full name and email of the new team member, the full name of who is being replaced, your school name and your team name.

Q. Should our team wear costumes?

Show your team’s spirit however you choose: costumes, uniforms, team dance, team flag or poster, cheer, fight song, etc. A prize will be awarded to the team with the most spirit.

Q. Will transportation be provided?

Yes, transportation will be provided to those teams selected to attend. Additional information about transportation will be sent out once attendance confirmations have been sent.

Q. Will food be provided?

We will provide a light breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks. If you have any dietary restrictions, please note this in the form and we will be sure to accommodate you.

Q. When will our team receive a confirmation about The Games?

After the registration deadline, we will reach out to confirm team selection and provide more details. Not all registered teams will be selected due to space limitations.

Q. Do I need to bring my own laptop?

It will give your team a competitive advantage to have all members work from their own laptop in the challenges. If you don’t have your own, see if you can borrow one from a friend. And don’t forget the charger!
